PATRIOT RECOGNIZED
Defender Jamie Cunningham Selected to Premier
Development League Team of the Week

El Paso Patriots defender Jamie Cunningham, who helped shut out the Houston Leones and vault his team to the top of the Mid-South Division standings, was selected by the Premier Development League to the league’s Team of the Week.

Cunningham played all 180 minutes over the weekend doubleheader, stoning a team that walloped its first opponents, New Orleans, 3-0.

The Fort Lewis College defender has quickly moved into the Patriots starting 11 and made an impact. At 6-2, he can smother aerial passes and his footwork and closing ability keep him near any player who ventures into his area of the field.

El Paso has an open date this weekend before hitting the road May 17th to face the Houston Leones in the teams’ third consecutive match.

The Patriots nominated goalkeeper Sebastián Narvaéz and forward Richard Abrego, along with Cunningham.

Narvaéz, a Colombian who plays collegiately at Bellevue University, posted his league-tying second and third shutouts of the season. Abrego, who scored the goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Houston, plays college soccer at UNLV.
