Is there any circumstance that would be considered acceptable for a team to ignore the unwritten fair play rule about one team putting the ball in touch to tend to their injured player and the other team returning the favor somehow?

I ask because that is exactly how Austin scored their second goal. The Pats put the ball in touch in their own defensive third to tend to Miguel Larrosa, who was hurt in a collision with the Austin GK, Anthony Arnold. But on the resulting throw-in, the ball came to Robert Descant, the forward who would later play goalie for Arnold, and he scored to put his team up, 2-0, in a critical stretch of the first half.

Thought that was pretty crappy.
