Myself and my wife will becoming to the back to back games away leg (For Atlanta) at the Blackbaud in May or June cant remember when the fixtures are now, but however we will be there.

I also think drummer and his wife will be their also.

I just have a few qustions, I am 22 years old and my wife is 20? will she be able to come into the bar with me if we want to go and relax.

2. Is the bar english style themed as i saw a set of dart boards, which you dont see in many pubs here.

3. Is their a Snooker Table, for all of you that dont know what snooker is, its a game pretty much like pool played on a 6foot by 12 foot table.

Rules of snooker.....

Hope to see some of you their and also hope to see the backs winning.

1. Yes, she can get into the bar. The bar itself has no age limit, you just have to have a pass.

2. Darts, yes.

Spear one of the lions though, and you're in deep doo-doo.

3. No snooker table, one regular pool table. However, in addition to the regulation foosball table, there's a couple of game tables I've never seen anywhere. I don't even know what to call them and I can't find any pictures of them to post. I assume they're pub games normally found in England. Maybe someone else who knows what they're called will post something.

Look forward to meeting you and the Mrs.

Bribe-taker summed it up well.

It not uncommon to see the players kids up in the pub after the matches. Terry Phelan's youngest came up to me last year, crawled up in my lap and tried to drink my Guiness. He muct be all of three goingon four!! Its was great. You wont feel to far from home in the pub either as you will hear quite a few British accents. Unfortunantly, much to the disappointment of most, they don't serve Tea (unless you want it Iced)

I would recommend going up to the pub before the match to take in all the memrobilla though, as after the match it is usually packed and it might get difficult to take photos if you wanted. That way you can concentrate on drinking after the match! What's your poison, Guiness, Bodington's, Amsel light, Bass, Let me know and I'll buy the first round to celebrate a Battery victory. (If Im not back, maybe I could get them to start a tab at the bar for me?)

Im not a drinker, but i dont mind the odd pint. I use to like heinken when i was in england or carlsberg.

But now the taste of beer is just stale, American beer also seems to be a little watery comapired to things like old thumper.

?? I heard a rumor that people drink beer warm here ?? yuKKKK...

I couldnt drink if the backs lost, i would be in mope mode. (sulking, also gotta drive back to dekalb for return leg the next day)

I know what your talking about - I definitely consider myself English but have got used to saying British to most Americans so as not to confuse them (no offense guys). I guess you're a shandy drinking Southerner and that's why you can't hold your beer, you should have made a few trips up North to see how it's done - we can drink the Jocks under the table any day of the week (not sure about the Irish, they eat Guiness for dinner).

JBG - the pub pic looks good, are you sure it's not computer generated - it looks a little too clean to be a proper English pub.

Chris, it's an interesting place to visit, although I wouldn't even begin to compare it with an English pub. Roderick and I sampled the place when we took the Kickers to Charleston in the play-offs last season (unfortunately couldn't try the alcohol 'cause we had to drive the K-mobile back home), but there is a decent amount of standing space (something sadly lacking - and I know why - in Virginia's bars) in the bar, plus there was free food before the game too. Also plenty of footy shirts from around the world (though mostly English) and a lot to look at. If you (or anyone else) ever get the chance to see the place I highly recommend it, just remember to let me know if the beer is up to standard.

My wife considers herself more British but her father is from Glasgow and her Mum is from York. She lived most her life in London, Bath and Cambridgeshire though. But she refuse to cnsider herself European (as most Brits would)

But its true that it not really that traditional as far as your local might be, its more of an English "theme" pub done well. For one it is over 5000 sq feet, probably three times most pubs I've been in. But its here and very convenant for pre and post match beverages smile

So Englsih-Fan, are you planning a road trip down this year? I'll even buy you a drink if you do.

Mikey

I've never been to England so I can't say what a proper English pub is. I would guess it's been "Americanized" to some degree and I've heard some people describe it as "yuppy". In any event, I think of it more as a soccer museum that just happens to serve food and drinks. And because it's on the grounds, it just makes it very convenient on game day and a really fun place to hang out with your friends.

Us country bumpkins hit on the cider at about 16 "Thiking about it, that cider stuff is nasty"

I have a few friends who like to wack um back, but me weighing about 10 stone and only being about 5"10" in height, can't hold my beer.

A pint of Orange Squash and a good slap up english breakfast "At Lunch time" was always a fav thing to do after some rough-um up sunday league footy.

Man i miss everything cooked in one pan, Few rashers of bacon, Eggs, Baked Beans (Hienz of course), Toast, Tomatos,Chips (Not fries or patato chips, Proper chips...like from a chip shop),Fried Bread, Mushrooms and some good old "daddys Brown sauce".

Hot cup of tea also and the sun newspaper or the news of the world on sunday.

Nothing like it in the whole wide world. Give it thirty more years and they will have to clean the grease out of me.

English pub has to have to common idiot in it also, the one person who thinks he knows soccer and everyone tells to shut up.

You have to also have the wried looking bar maid that comes with every pub and the dog laying on the floor.

If you dont have that you cant be an english bar.

BribeTaker = Yuppy means posh and upper class. It basicly means clean to normal folk and not a filth hole like most back street pubs in england, These people who call it a yuppy pub must be the kind that like all the smoke and people fighting with snooker cues.

I remember people having fight over footy in pubs by the name of (Rose and Crown, Red Lion and White Hart...these are common english pub names)

don't worry about it, you find some Brits (english) people dont know how good they have got it here and always have to complain.

Back home people always complain when it rains ("Its to cold") and when it becomes sunny ("It's to hot")....Were a nation that likes to complain and fight wars with everyone.

English = oh yeah 100% english

British = Not possible, no one is ever born in 4 nations at one time. Ive never even been to ireland, scotland or wales.

European = No way, I couldnt stand to be held in the same light as some nations from that group. well mainly 2 of them.

No nations named, but the most english people will know of the two nations i speak.

Actually JBG that was meant as a back handed compliment. The Three Lions pub is a great idea and something I wish we had in Richmond instead of having to drive a mile to Bandito's Mexican Restaurant only to listen to some obnoxious live band while wondering how many more tattoos the waitresses have that we can't see.

I'm intrigued. If I make it to Richmond for a game, we'll have to go there. Do the Cornerkicks go somewhere or do something before or after matches? Meet somewhere? Tailgate?

Bandito's is the official post-game party venue of the Richmond Kickers, the players all turn up and greet the few fans that join them (often Corner Kicks members). Don't get me wrong - I appreciate all that Bandito's does a lot for the soccer community in Richmond - but I feel somewhere closer and more family sensitive would make a much more successful post-game event. However, if you make a trip up here we'll gladly lead you to the big yellow building after the match.

The Corner kicks usually turn up at the stadium an hour before Kick-off. If we expect guests we'll arrange a tail-gate outside the stadium but it's not the norm. I, on the other hand, usually turn up just in time for kick-off.

You and your wife would be welcomed at Blackbaud, and arrangements could be made for you to enjoy the Three Lion's. Either thru your team office, or by arrangements made for Regiment members who are also Three Lion's Members to get you passes. Most visitors that I have spoken with have considered it an experience worth having. Though mostly focused on European memorabilia, there is a LOT of American and other soccer memorabilia on display worth seeing. If this is of interest to you, the third level hall outside the private boxes is worth viewing, and this is quite easily arranged.

One point I should, and need to bring up. The legal age for a person to be served alcohol is 21. Therefore, your wife cannot drink beer or any other alcoholic beverage on the grounds, and anyone who provides her with such is subject to legal punishment.

There are plenty of non-alcoholic drinks available in the pub, so this isn't a problem in a person being able to enjoy a visit.

We look forward to seeing you.

The three Lions club is a great place for fans from both clubs to gather for fun before and after a match.

The dart boards that Bribetaker showed you a picture of ,however, were removed last year and I'm not sure that have been put back up.

looking forward to all oppostion fans that would like to join us for some true southern hospitality.

Well our plans are to drive up on the friday night from Rome,GA straight to Charleston and stay on Daniels Island (I myself wouldnt want to stay on James's island, I just let the folk rent the houses and i give the island the name...Because im nice like that, Not wanting to show off my wealth, i stay away).

We would probably sleep in a B&B and then do some touristy walking around and getting lost, I want to go down to the beach as i miss it a lot, I havent seen the sea for about 9 months now and when i come to Charleston it will be over a year.

My wife will be driving and we hope to have a new car, the old banger in the driveway might fall apart.

I think adam sandler wrote a song about my car "Piece of $h!T car".

We will come watch the games and hopefully meet up with drummer who is riding his Bike from Atlanta all the way to Charleston.

After the game we might spend a couple of hours in the 3 Lions Bar and speak to everyone, Wish everyone well and then make the drive back home and then to the Dekalb for the return leg.

After we win both games in 2 days, i will come back here and post it all for you, Also i will have a load of pictures for the backsfan.com website.

Yeah My wife is annoyed at being only 20 and not being able to drink, she get even more annoyed when i tell her the drinking age in England is only 18. LOL (Oh well i can have a pint or two, and she can have a Shandy Bass).

I hope to meet you all soon and sample the Charleston fans welcome.

Hay Hay Hay the were the Monkeys and were coming to chuck town.

JB, if you're going to stay on Daniel Island why not just stay at the hotel next to the stadium. Rooms are decent quality, good choice of TV channels, breakfast is included in the price and it's real easy to get to. Plus the menu at Queen Annes Revenge restaurant (they share the parking lot) is pretty good too.
I know you're not likely to stay there, but one place to avoid is the Ramada near to the N Charleston Coliseum. The place is right under the flight path to the airport, and is (in comparison) a sh!thole. I had to stay there with the Richmond Renegades hockey team when they were in Charleston last month, and I ended up leaving the room and sleeping on the Kicker's bus (which the Renegades have been using) that night!

JB,

Have you or your wife been down to Charleston before? There is a ton to do here and you hould really enjoy your time here. If your set on the romantic B&B there are quite a few but I think the Hampton Inn is the only place on Daniel Island to stay. Its very convenant to the stadium and the Queen Anne's Revenge. A couple things Id recommend on the limited time your here: Head to the Market in the morning and catch a carriage ride, it will give you a good feel for the city and you get to see quite abit of the history and the beautiful homes. after that take some time to shop and eat lunch near the market there are too many good resturants to mention. Check out the Beach after lunch there are a couple different ones and they all have there own merits then you should be able to catch a bit somewhere before heading to the 'Baud check out the Three Lions Pub and enjoy the match. If you want evening meal or nightlife again the Market is a good place with something for just about all taste. Your wife shouldn't have too much trouble getting in to most places because I think they allow 18 and older, you just get the wrist band thing.

If you want some more info, PM me or ask in here.

Nope never been to Charleston, i did plan to come a while back, but i was still in the process of imagration and waiting on my work permit and socail sec number.

Sound like a great place, If its anything like bournemouth is should be really really peaceful and then explode at night.

Sorry about all the pictures, but one or two would not do the place credit. If you ever go to england you must visit Bournemouth, even most english people from other parts of the country will tell you to visit the area and the new forest also.
