Nothing new here but thought I'd post it.

Big mistake in the article though. It's Kevin Anderson not Brian. I would have gotten a big fat "F" in my journalism class no matter how good the article was written. But then again from the editorial Keith Namm wrote awhile ago, we know he really doesn't care for soccer.

I saw that but didn't post it because nothing really new. However, are you sure about Keith Namm? I think he's done a pretty fair job of covering soccer in the lowcountry. The only anti-soccer editorial I remember lately was the waste of newsprint spewed out by d$ckhead Burger last year.

Your right, it was Burger. I guess I'm getting another "F" from Prof. Ward for getting my fact wrong;). I apologize to Keith Namm for even comparing the two. Still, I wish he would have gotten the name right.

Keith, Phil Bowman & even Andrew Miller are all cool - I'm not much of a Burger fan - he can move back to Athens Georgia anytime...

Keith Namm seems to do his best with a fairly hostile editorial senior crew.

I have blasted Burger by e-mail for his stone-headed anti-soccer "it's not American" stance more than once.

He seems to take xenophobia as a point of pride.

Heaven forfend he ever realize that most "American" sports weren't founded in the US, but were based on imported practices in Europe.

He'd have a stroke.

Point out that lacross is the only sport with even a vague claim to true American origins, since it comes from a war game played widely by Native American Indians when the first European colonists arrived, and he'd likely go into convulsions before he could answer.

His journalistic objectivity thus defined, perhaps that is why I rarely bother to read his editorials, or those of Gene Sapakoff, who seems dedicated to trotting in his steps.

I certainly don't subscribe to the Charleston Post and Courier for its Sports section.

It's lame, at best. Keith Namm may be the only actual local reporter they have for professional sports. I don't know, but everything else seems to be AP reports. But I don't read the rest of the section that closely. I could care less about the latest soap opera about this or that NBA, NFL, NHL or MBL player. Those sports have long since abandoned the fans for TV ratings.

I hope US professional soccer has better sense than to chase that route.

European football seems to be losing the battle.
